Jade, a Ludisia Discolour or Jewel Orchid, is a rewardingly simple plant to care for. She's tolerant of lower light conditions and a fan of humidity, so think bathrooms! Her velvety deep green leaves are patterned with faint pink stripes, and if you're lucky she'll display small white flowers amongst the foliage.
Native to the Asian tropics, Jade is most often found growing on the forest floor, shielded by the canopy above. Believe it or not, if she gets too much light it can actually wash out her distinctive leaf colours!
Jade, Ludisia Discolour 'Jewel Orchid' - Small
Jade prefers bright indirect light without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight however would be welcomed.
If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:
- Minimal shadow = lower light
- Half shadow = indirect light
- Full shadow = direct sun
